Secrets that appear and are justified as privacy boundaries. My marriage will turn 15 years old in March and I have always (even during rough periods) considered it solid. But it’s changing and not for the better I’m afraid. I’m not sure what to expect from this posting, I’ve read others expressing similar issues and found the person reaching out was attacked as often as supported. So please, unless you have been in an unfaithful relationship or think you are now, please keep your inexperienced opinions to yourself. Three months ago I introduce Facebook to our home, it was part of a marketing assignment at work and once on, I saw how much fun catching up could be. My wife set up her page and quickly she began receiving requests. Finding old friends, chatting, Mafia Wars, and such became a part of our life at home. We each sat at a computer (back to back) in our living room each evening and gave each other snippets of our individual conversations. If you have played these online games you know how time consuming and additive they can become. Often my wife would ask me to check up on her game for her if I was to come home for lunch and I would. One morning after getting the kids ready for school and making breakfast, I saw my wife running late. I knew that she would want to peek in on thing (her games) before leaving for the day so I sat down to open it for her. I couldn’t get in. When I expressed my confusion and ask if something had happened to the account, she said had changed the password. By the end of the day she had routed her email from Facebook to her private work account. That night (about 3am) she deleted the “deleted” files in our email account and emptied the recycle bin. I work in computer science; I do the system maintenance, at work and at home. This was an attempt to hide something. My wife & I share a common history of previous cheating spouses. That’s the reason that we “lived together” for five years prior to our marriage. So in these twenty years together, I had never encountered this wall. I’m not some control freak; my wife has her master’s degree and has always worked for big name companies, she has her on cell phone (two of them in fact), her on bank accounts, and her own friends (mostly male). When I sat down to talk to my wife about my concerns (that’s putting it mildly, I’m in panic mode and having flashbacks to my first marriage), but in the quiet setting of our bedroom away from the children I attempted to express my feelings about this. Well the conversation didn’t go as well as I would have liked. My wife is what I call emotionally lateral; she can associate feeling in one situation with experiences in the past and tends to blend them or draw conclusions based on that connection. After a discussion full of “red herrings”, the basis questions I ask, “what did I do & why did you do this?” remained unanswered. I’m ashamed to admit what I did next, but I wasn’t going to sit by and have secrets and deception destroy our life together. I suddenly didn’t trust her. She was still holding back and very defensive. She held to her decision of locking me out of that new part of her life. So, (don’t tell Google) I doctored her facebook account. In fact, I changed her password, stopping her from continuing whatever she was up to. Given that she is not that good at remembering passwords and her work’s email system would filter correspondence from facebook, I was pretty sure I was safely in control of the account. There it was. In her in box messages form old friends (high school), many talking about how attractive she still was. She teased, but never openly invited any escalation of a relationship. One recalled a missed opportunity he had with her and she responded that he should have acted on it. Of course this is after I read how his wife had passed away. Another male friend was now a truck driver and was going to be in the area. They exchanged phone numbers and he wanted her to meet him at a truck stop. While facebook saves the emails, the chat conversations vanish like vapor. I would have to do some serious dissecting to find those in the temp files. It would have taken days so I didn’t bother. I went online to take a peek at her cell phone usage (again, I’m not proud of these things, but I was batting 500), sure enough calls to this guy and others. I could see from the timestamps of the cell phone and those of the inbox that she didn’t meet up with this guy, instead called him when he came to town. I at least felt better about that. Lot’s of fringe behavior, but no smoking gun. Was this enough to feel she needed all that privacy? No, we’ve had years together and guys from time to time seek her favors. the assignment is all together worth 50 points but the one question is wroth 30 points! this is for my education class.
assignment- this is an election year and as young voters and or future teachers you should have first hand info. on the educational position that the republican and democratic presidential candidates have. look up each one of their positions on education reform and critique it.
so i went on both the candidates sites and went under issues and then to education and read their views and explained what they wanted to do and i tried to critique it but i think i ddidn’t… here is what i wrote.
Republican candidate John McCain’s education reform policy wants to build on to The No Child Left Behind plan by maintaining the current emphasis standards and accountability however he does not believe in focusing on state averages. John McCain wants to provide schools with quality teachers by encouraging alternative certification programs by devoting five percent of Title II funding money to states to recruit teachers whom graduate in the top of their class’s 25 percent tile or those who participate in alternative teaching recruitment programs. Alternative teaching can be quality teachers but if the certification is rushed then teachers might not be as prepaid as those non-alternative teachers. Additional money should be given to students in college who are majoring in teaching in the form of grants and scholarships. John McCain would also like to give 60 percent of title II money to award teachers directly who teach in failing schools bonuses and for teachers that teach in math and science and teachers who demonstrate student improvement. McCain would use 35 percent of Title II founding would go to principals and teachers in order for them to focus on their school needs. This will allow the principal of the schools have more control over what the money is spent on to improve their school. Under McCain the D.C Opportunity scholarship money will increase from $13 million a year to $20 million a year and benefit nearly a thousand more families that make an average income of $23,000 a year. The program helps parents take their children out of failing schools and place them in a better learning environment. Five hundred million dollars in current federal funding would help to build new virtual schools and support online courses not just for dual enrollment for college students but for regular class and enhancement classes. John McCain would give $250 million through a completive grant program those supporting states that expand online AP math and science courses and computer courses and tutoring support for students in public schools and foreign language courses. This program along with his $250 digital passport scholarship program will allow students to have credit recover courses and SAT/ACT prep courses. The virtual passport program would not only apply to public schools but to charter schools and home schooled students.
Democrat Barack Obama education reform plan includes keeping the NCLB act but changing the act so that there is more funding for it but schools are not ranked by standardized test. Obama believes like many other teachers believe that most of the school year is wasted forcing students to prepare for standardized test and not spend focusing on learning the material on an affective time scale. Obama would like to make math and science classes better by recruiting math and science degrees into teaching. The U.S has the highest developed country drop out rate so Obama plans to invest in personal academic plans and teaching teams and parent’s involvement and mentoring in middle schools. He also wants to double the founding for after school programming by double which will not only give kids with parents that work late or live in bad neighborhoods a safe environment to play and get help they may need with homework. Obama also wants to invest in summer learning programs to help students get extra help for those in low family incomes. Obama supports programs such as GEAR UP, TRIO and Upward Bound. Programs like this make it possible for low income families to consider planning for college. Obama makes knows that in order for students to do well the teachers must also be well educated. Obama plans to create new teaching service scholarships that cover four years of undergraduate or two years of graduate and high-quality alternative programs to help prepare more alternative teachers. In order to better prepare alternative teachers Obama will expand on mentoring programs for alternative teachers. This allows new teaches with less experience in the field to be paired with a more experienced teacher that will help them make their class room time more efficient. By paying the mentoring teachers extra money to mentor new recruited teachers more teachers will be better prepaid to teach. I don’t understand everyone’s abhorrence for democratic socialism. It seems to me that there is a social stigma against the democratic socialist form of government due to the communist regimes of Soviet Russia, PR China, North Korea, and other failed governments. However, people do not realize that communism is NOT socialism, and socialism is NOT democratic socialism.
In my humble opinion, the US public needs to become enlightened and reconsider the situation and analyze it in an objective manner, relying on science and ethics (morals).
The democracy currently present in the USA is a system that only perpetuates poverty; the people at the top stay at the top and the people at the bottom stay at the bottom.
People who grow up in impoverished, gang-ridden cities, such as Watts or Compton, have little to no chance of growing up to be someone in the world. If you grow up in a household where you have very little money for food at home with a single mother and three brothers, while being subjected to a substandard educational system, then you will almost invariably end up in a gang, and/or steal or sell drugs for money in order to help feed your family and make a living. Even if you do try to get an education (considering you can even afford school materials), your education will be sub par compared to the middle and upper class students; and how do you expect to both go to school AND make a living for yourself? People say that “America is the land of opportunity,” and that “anything is possible in the USA,” but do these statements hold true for those who grow up in the conditions I described? You tell me.
In a socialist society, everyone could elect representatives and every family and individual would inevitably receive a minimum amount of money with with to live comfortably and healthily (most healthy products are extremely over-priced) and there would therefore be no “ghetto” neighborhoods and everyone could afford to obtain an education and succeed in life.
And NO, the problem is NOT that you award necessity instead of work, because there would be a minimum income cap, but there would also therefore be room for improvement in income with education and competition. The difference is that there would not be the elitist super-rich that exists today due to the imperialist capitalism that began over a century ago with the British Empire.
Here is an excellent point that someone made in another answer (not my info), so take this into consideration as well:

However, we all know that this type of government can never be established because the elite of the world would never risk letting something like that happen, for it would decimate their power and grip on the world economy.

I am a second year architecture student form South Africa.
I have the opportunity to work somewhere in Holland for the second simester of next year as a manditory 6 month practical.
The only problem is, I don’t know how much they’re going to pay and if I will be able to eat and maybe, just maybe have a good time now and again. The university may pay for our lodging, but that’s not a given yet. My parients can’t afford to pay anything other than getting me there and I have no savings to speak of.
Here it’d be easy to find work. We’ve been given a list of 30 firms eagre to hire us, and there are only 20 students that need to be placed. I still live at home so whatever they’re paying would be pocket money.
So, what I want to know from somebody actually in the know, will I be able to survive financially?
A chance like this doesn’t come around too often. I really want this to happen.

In all kids have far more opportunities than they did say 50 years ago, and yet the crime rate is soaring!
Personally, i think its to do with the break down of the traditional family, bad parenting, indiscipline in schools and the influence of african american urban music forms like rap, hip hop etc.
Much of that is due to the PC brigade, who insist on treating kids as “citizens” rather than children who need to be guided, taught and where necessary, disciplined.
For many years the “right on” brigade have had the education system in its grip, teachers are not allowed to teach in a traditional way, they are not allowed to discipline kids etc, and pupils have no respect or fear whatsoever for authority.
In many areas, the traditional nuclear family has simply ceased to exist, kids are produced with no more thought than that taken to produce a turd! There is often no father figure, often the mother does not work, and again the kids have no grounding or discipline at home.

I was bright and full of promise in highschool and dreamed of going to college and had lots of dreams about my potential. my father retired form the military and at 17 I moved across the state literally the day I graduated highschool to a tiny little town. I started going to college and finished a semester and then got together with my son’s father and started smoking marijuana with him. I dropped out of college and spent the next ten years unhappy, in and out of depression, dead-end jobs, sometimes jobless just sitting at home being a fat pot-head wasting time. At 27 I had my son and turned my life around. My ex did not. He ended up leaving two years later saying that I wasn’t accepting him for who he was anymore and he had no intentions of ever changing (wanted to continue to smoke pot and live that sort of lifestyle indefinitely). It’s been 2 years since the split, I’m now a 31 year old single mom to a 4 year old boy. I’ve managed to finish pre-reqs for the local nursing program and just finished my first semester of the nursing program… however I’m single and because I also work as a secretary and have a young son I don’t have much of a life otherwise. It’s been nearly a a year since I’ve heard from my ex.
I know that I am blessed to have my son, but I feel like a failure in so many ways. When I talk to my friends from high school and they ask what I’ve been up to I really have nothing to tell them about those 10 years. The last two I can talk about but before that I was just wasting my time being a loser and I’m ashamed of that, especially when I talk to those who are now doctors. I feel like I could have done so much more and now when I see the young beautiful women at my college with freedom and all of the opportunity in the world I wonder what I was thinking!
At 31 I feel like I’m past my prime and I’m in school with younger girls and don’t have free-time to have the life I feel I sort of missed out on. I’m not proud of what I’ve accomplished other than my son. I feel like people are wondering why I didn’t do more. I listen to the doctors at my work talking and they’re all from Ivy league schools, have traveled all around the world, speak 2 languages, were on internationally renowned athletics teams, etc. They run marathons, do triatholons, go wine tasting….
How can I feel like I still have the time and youth to do more when I don’t!? Starting to feel like my life is half as great as it might have been and I’m saddened by this. What man who went to college and did things right is going to want a single mom who was never married to a druggie ex, who’s just now getting her act together?

he claims that my dog broke the fence when my dog is on a chain and cant reach the fence. Its his dog..ive seen the damn mutt do it. So anyway he comes over last night freaking out screaming at me to fix the fence, i tell him to go f*** himself. About 20 min later the cops show up telling me he called them and smelled marijuana in my home. well i smoke cloves so i invite the cops in and they smell my cigs and decide that my neighbor is a jackass. my hubby tried to go talk to him about what his issue is but he wouldnt even open the door. this just happened last night. our kids play together and now im not even sure how to handle this. i left this note on his door today……..
Just to make you aware, your call to the police department last night apparently did not go the way you thought it would, did it?
You should really learn the difference between Indonesian clove cigarettes and marijuana before you call the police and file a false claim of drug use against your neighbors. When the police showed up to my home, I invited them in and they took a full look around. After witnessing for themselves that the smell you claimed was marijuana turned out to be nothing more than a perfectly legal clove cigarette their advice to me was to watch out for my “vengeful” neighbor. They also offered me an opportunity to file a complaint against you for a false claim. I turned them down because I certainly am not going to get into this nonsense with you, when we both know it has to do with a fence.
First of all, I realize that I was certainly less than polite to you. I was greatly distressed that you would send a 10 year old child to discuss the repair of the fence with me. You came to my home 3 times in less than 24 hours. That is excessive. I am very sorry that the fence was not repaired to your liking in the time frame that you wanted but that is no excuse to call the police and lie to them. Do you really think the police would come into my home and smell marijuana and not arrest me? I think not.
The hole in the fence was repaired the second that my husband got home from work. He attempted to go over and make sure that you were satisfied with the repair but you refused to open the door for him….who could blame you when you know you had filed a false drug use complaint….but the hole in the fence is gone and there is no way your dog should be able to come into our yard again. My dog is on a chain and will stay that way so you don’t have to worry about him coming into your yard. If you are not satisfied with the way the fence has been fixed then call the owner of the home. He has let this home go into foreclosure so I am sure you will understand when I say I will not sink one dime into any repair of the home or fence.
Your wife is such a lovely person and we have never had an issue over anything but the fence…..I have been more than helpful to your family allowing your son to stay in my home and use my phone to call someone during the many occasions that he has been locked out of his home after school and I am appalled that you have the nerve to file false police charges of drug use because you are angry over the way I spoke to you over the fence. I will be going to the police department to get a copy of the complaint form, which the police have assured me will validate that it was a fraudulent complaint that you made to them.
Do not set foot on our property and if you ever file a false complaint against my family again I will press full charges against you and you will be hearing from my attorney (who I spoke to this morning) when I sue you for slander…
You calling the police and lying about what could be very serious charges because you are angry over a broken board in the fence is just sick….you need help. Its such a shame as well that you would do that considering that our children play together. Maybe you should worry about whats going on in your own home instead of making mistaken judgement about whats going on in mine.

Ok, I’m 17 and I love my family more than anything. My problem is that I have absolutely no prospects – I work really hard at school, got straight As and A*s in my GCSEs and am on track for As in my AS-levels, but it is for nothing because my family can’t afford to send me to Uni. Therefore when all of my friends leave for Uni so they can get amazing jobs with a bright future, I have already spoken to my boss at Waitrose about doing a management training course and spending my life working there.
I have a boyfriend, though I’m trying to pluck up the courage to break up with him, but I LOVE my family more than anyone ever knows. I have two older brothers and an older sister, and really good parents who I love and respect. We spend alot of time together and they’re my best friends.
I really want to get out whilst I can – I love the movies, everything about them and would love the opportunity to work in LA in the movie business, but I’m not sure this is realistic? I wanted to do Film Studies and learn how to direct etc. at Uni, but this is not an option – should I go for it anyway?
My big plan was to move to LA and just try and get a small job and work my way up the ladder, though I think this is just me watching way too many movies and real life is literally just getting a job, be it in a supermarket where you are really not respected by anyone, least of all posh customers
I think I would hurt my parents by moving away, but they want me to work at Waitrose for the rest of my life, and I think by doing so I would live the rest of my life exactly where I’m at now which is just a thoroughly depressing prospect, as I absolutely hate working at Waitrose, I’ve worked there since I was 15, and seriously, no-one knows how much I love movies, they are a form of escapism for me at the moment and they mean a lot to me (I know this sounds really sad and you probably think I’m a total loser at this point, but I’m really quite unhappy about everything and I think I just need a fresh start in the hopes that some day my parents would forgive – they would never support me in this as they just want me to get a steady job)
I just need some help thinking this through, I really have no-one to talk about this to, so any pointers would be awesome – sorry about the long-winded explanation!
