my son currently has many savings bonds from bdays and what not, wasnt sure if they were goin to be affected by what is going on in the us financial system or not.

Not at the moment, but who knows what nonsense the government will come up with next? This is not the time to make any financial changes, though – anything you do will be based on total lack of information.
