Q&A: What to do with savings bonds?
I have been getting savings bonds monthly for several years. I want to use them to supplement my sons SSI if I should die before him or am no longer able to care for him. Any suggestions on what to do and how to go about it.

You need to find out how much each bond is worth and if you should decide to cash it in will you earn interest that is at least equivalent to the interest the bond is earning. You can find out more about the bonds at www.savingsbonds.gov. You’ll need to know the series (E, EE, I, etc.), the purchase date and the projected maturity date.
Good Luck and congratulations on planning ahead!

Hold on to them until they mature.

Take the savings bonds to your financial institution and they will be able to tell you the value of each one. I believe it normally takes about 17 years to fully mature. There are many different kinds of bonds with the two most popular ones being EE or I bonds.
