Q&A: Nys Dept of labor self employment program?
I am on unemployment. Looking for a job. NYS DOL sends me this letter saying I am scheduled for an appointment for a workshop for the self employment program. They want me to know which kind of business I would like to start. What is this all about? I have no idea what kind of business I would like to start. Do they give you money to start it?
DO they take away your unemployment benefits or the extension of them?

They do not give you money to start it, but LOTS Of businesses can be started with no money.
They are trying to help you get work, even if it’s working for yourself. If you don’t participate, they will take away your benefits.
