Home improvement and recycling – what’s the best way to get rid of replaced items? 104

Q&A: Home improvement and recycling – what’s the best way to get rid of replaced items?
Recently, I just replaced the door handles and locks on our house. The locks were still in great condition, but since we recently bought the house, it was necessary to change the locks. Although I no longer have use for the locks, I don’t want to simply throw them in the trash, given that together they are several pounds of good metal. And as I do more home improvements in the future, I imagine I’ll be replacing a fair amount of items that are obsolete yet contain good material. But as far as I know, the weekly recycling bin is just for aluminum cans, newspaper, glass bottles, etc., not for doorknobs and that sort of thing. How can I get rid of this sort of stuff so that it can be recycled somehow rather than just thrown into a landfill?

Q&A: How do i use my moms ebay account to sell my items?
I am 16, which is not old enough to sell items on ebay, so I was planning on using my moms account. Before my mom agrees to this, she wants to know if after I sell something, is the percentage of the profit that Ebay takes from the sold item taken out of her paypal account? I would repay her for any of the money that is taken out of her paypal account. Would using my moms account be difficult? And is there anything else I need to know about doing this?

Is it a place for the sellers to send items to and people purchase online, or do people sell it from their own home. Its my 1st time buying something off ebay, and worried i’ll be scammed. What if the sellers keep the items while you purchase it? Is there anyway they can scam?

Q&A: What items lend themselves to a safer Ebay experience than others?
I just unknowingly purchased a stolen phone from ebay. I called my provider before the purchase, and they warned me of this risk. I went ahead because of price and sure enough…
After I found out it was stolen, I began to warn my tech support customers about ebay, and one seemed to take it personally, being that he’s a power-seller. He said it depends on what you buy. What things are safer, and what things are less safe to buy on ebay?
