Question: Overseas musician want to start/have a music career in Taiwan, is it possible?
Hi everybody, ni hao?
I am from Indonesia, and my ethnicity is Chinese-Indonesian. So I can understand Mandarin quite a bit, but I know it’s still not enough (but can speak English very well because I used to study and work in U.S for some years)
I just turned 28, and at this current point of time I’ve been having quite a identity crisis, that I’m planning to quit a quite good corporate/office job, and I’m seriously reconsidering of doing what I’ve (and my Heart) always loved to do: Music.
I am a songwriter/composer (love it very much!), and also play piano, guitar, and I also sing quite well (a lot of people said), and doesn’t mean to brag, but also have quite a good physical look (as many said again).
But to me, originality in music and writing a heartfelt, melodic, inspiring music/songs always comes first in my heart. It is very utmost important to me to stay original and compose good music.
But I wouldn’t lie that the reason I’m thinking of Taiwan is first because I seem to love its culture, it seems like a mix of Korean and Japanese as well (which I love both cultures as well). But secondly is of how large/big market and thus musical opportunities are probably more wide-open, than here in my home country (Indonesia), where musicians are in reality living quite a sad, poor life (some even still have to work a day job or own another non-music business, can’t be full-time make a living in something they really love: Music).
My question is, do you think I would have even some little chances to ‘make it’, if I’ve decided to be bold/brave, pack my bag, and just go there?
OR, would it be much wiser for me to have some ‘preparational steps’ first before I go fly there?
The thing is: I already have a very BIG & clear vision as what I’m going to do with my music.
I am seriously thinking of looking for a female vocalist there, to form a Duo or something like that!
I already have clear pictures of all the ‘Image’ I want, the music concept, the stage concept, etc etc.
All I need is just the Opportunity/Chances..
Please let me know what do you think honestly.
