An engineer is usually developing a product. Every product has a “window of opportunity.” An improved sword is not as interesting today as it would have been 1000 years ago. Most products today have windows that are, maybe, 1 year or less. Improved VHS tape doesn’t have a big market today.
It is important to get to market fast and to do so requires that you use your time effectively. Also, you have a limited budget to work with. Wasting time wastes money.
