I have recently cleaned my machine and
put it back to original settings. I
have then installed all my software
and everything works fine on all
applications except yahoo messenger. I
can not get it to recognise my webcam.
When I go to Preferances and webcam
the camera source is greyed out. If I
try and invite someone to view my
webcam it completely freezes messenger
and I can’t even ‘end now’ when
windows provides the opportunity.
My verson of messenger is
7,0,0,438,YIMS the module is
6,0,0,600. My webcam is trust380 usb2
and I have norton antivirus and
firewall which are up to date. My
operating system is XP home.
Would be pleased to have some help in
resolving this. Have installed and
reinstalled messenger to try and
correct.

First, I suggest forget any tech help “from Yahoo” – much much faster/better/easier to use public “forums” like this one (or http://wackyb.com or http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/yahoo-messenger-support/&referrerid=62526 )
Anyway, I notice that MY cam does work on YM, but I also see “Cam Source” greyed out in Preferences, so I guess THAT in itself is not necessarily a problem.
Is your camera ok for use apart from YM – i.e. via any other IM progs like MSN, PalTalk, etc – or even the software that was installed with the cam ?
I’d recommend at least that you get a newer version of YM. 7.0.0.438 came out last November, but the current one (around early Feb I think) is 7.0.2.120 – may as well try with the latest, in case there was a bug in earlier version that may have been fixed now.
(Or even try the BETA version, even newer, possibly even better – though of course COULD cause other problems. It is currently 7.5.0.647)
Also I wonder if (temporarily) disabling your firewall might improve anything.

Finally, you are by no means the only one for whom YM crashes/freezes/hangs at times when using cam. Don’t take it personally, it’s almost certainly nothing much wrong that YOU might be doing !
